Forward in Faith

Forward in Faith, the capital campaign of the Archdiocese of Washington, was started as a collaborative effort between Cardinal McCarrick and the clergy and laity to address some of the most pressing needs facing our Archdiocese as we started the third millennium of Christianity, needs ranging from pastoral and spiritual care to social services to buildings for our schools, parishes and ministries.

At the request of the Cardinal, dozens of lay leaders and clergy identified and recommended programs and projects, with a total cost of $440 million. A predominantly-lay committee, working with Cardinal McCarrick, prioritized these many recommendations and a goal to raise $135 million was established. The financial resources generated from this effort will provide support to parishes, Catholic education, Catholic Charities, pastoral services, multi-cultural apostolates and other critical ministries.

Pastors and parish leaders worked closely with their parishioners to meet the Forward in Faith goal. As of November 2005, $185 million had been pledged, a testament to the generosity and commitment of our parishioners to help ensure critical ministries are present for those in need. To ensure the funds are used solely for the goals and objectives, all of the funds, pledged over a three- to five-year period, are held in a separate 501(c)(3) corporation.
